  • 5/7/2018 Gov. Malloy Launches Annual Summer Reading Challenge at State Library

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy, State Department of Education Commissioner Dianna R. Wentzell, the State Library’s Director of Library Development Dawn LaValle, and school representatives from across the state today launched the 2018 Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge at the Connecticut State Library. Governor Malloy also announced the 2018 summer reading challenge theme “Libraries Rock!” and recognized the top-performing schools from the 2017 Summer Reading Challenge.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today is urging municipal leaders in towns and cities affected by Tuesday’s tornadoes and severe storms to partner with the state and collect the critical data that will be needed to determine whether thresholds to request a Major Disaster Declaration from the federal government have been met. A potential declaration could permit the state and its eligible municipalities to receive federal aid that can offset some of the costs that residents, businesses, and state and local governments are facing in the aftermath of the damaging storms.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that United States Department of the Treasury has approved all 72 opportunity zones nominated last month by his administration on behalf of the State of Connecticut. These nominations were made as part of the federal government’s recently established Opportunity Zone Program to induce long-term investments in low-income communities.

  • 5/15/2018 Gov. Malloy: State Allowing Insurance Companies to Utilize Out-Of-State Adjusters to Expedite Claims Resulting from Tuesday’s Severe Weather

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Connecticut Insurance Department has activated its emergency adjuster program that allows insurance companies to quickly register their out-of-state adjusters and bring them into the state to help with claims of property and auto damage. The Governor explained activating this protocol will help expedite the many anticipated claims resulting from the severe storms that impacted the state on Tuesday afternoon.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed into law legislation (Senate Bill 543) that was adopted by near-unanimous, bipartisan votes in both chambers of the Connecticut General Assembly and makes adjustments to the fiscal year 2019 state budget, as well as deficiency appropriations for agencies in the current fiscal year.

  • 5/24/2018 Gov. Malloy: Federal Grant Will Aid New England States in Creating Coalition to Collaborate on Defense-Related Business

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced today that Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island have received a joint grant of $1.5 million from the U.S. Department of Defense’s Office of Economic Adjustment to create an organization that will be known as the New England Regional Defense Industry Collaboration.

  • 5/28/2018 Gov. Malloy Announces Restoration of Agricultural Sustainability Account Funding for Connecticut’s Dairy Farmers

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that through his administrative authority, he has fully restored funding to the state’s Agriculture Sustainability Account by reversing a $1.4 million cut to Connecticut’s dairy farmers that was made in the October 2017 bipartisan, biennial state budget. While the budget adjustment legislation that was signed into law earlier this month partially restored some of the funding beginning in fiscal year 2019, the cut still remained for fiscal year 2018. By making reductions in other areas, the Governor has been able to restore funding for 2018, fully reversing the scheduled cuts.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman are applauding the Connecticut House of Representatives for voting tonight to approve legislation that will ban enhancements that increase the rate of fire for semiautomatic weapons, including items such as bump stocks, trigger cranks, binary trigger systems, and other modifications. The legislation was adopted by a vote of 114-35.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman released the following statements in response to the 21-14 vote in the State Senate this afternoon giving final approval to legislation opting Connecticut into the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, under which Connecticut will allocate its electoral votes to the presidential candidate who wins the most popular votes. This compact does not take effect until enough states sign on to guarantee that the national popular vote winner wins the presidency.

  • 5/13/2018 Gov. Malloy Signs Legislation Codifying Practices into Law to Ensure the Fair Treatment of Women in Prison

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that he signed a new law on Monday that strengthens Connecticut’s efforts to bring fairness and dignity to incarcerated women, and thereby reduce recidivism. The legislation, which he proposed earlier this year, codifies into statute specific practices – many of which were enacted during the current administration – to require that they continue well into the future, no matter whom may be the state’s next governor.
