  • 5/30/2018 Gov. Malloy Reminds Residents That Atlantic Hurricane Season Begins June 1

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy and state emergency management and insurance officials are reminding Connecticut residents that as the first day of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins on June 1, it is always important to have preparations in place should any severe weather potentially impact the state. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with the principal threat period for Connecticut occurring from mid-August to mid-October.

  • 5/5/2018 Gov. Malloy Announces Prison Population at Historic Lows

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Connecticut’s prison population has dropped to 13,500 inmates. This marks a year-over-year decline of 1,000 inmates, and the lowest level since 1994. The decline in prison population is coupled with the lowest reported crime rates the state has seen in more than 50 years, and the largest reduction in violent crime of any state in the nation over the last four years.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy is hailing the U.S. Senate for voting to overturn the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) rule gutting net neutrality. All Senate Democrats were joined by three Republicans to pass the measure, which now goes on to the U.S. House of Representatives.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed a Declaration of Civil Preparedness Emergency to assist the state and its municipalities with response and recovery efforts following Tuesday afternoon’s severe weather throughout portions of the state. The emergency order will give state agencies flexibility in assisting municipalities to respond to and recover from the damages from the storms.

  • 5/28/2018 Gov. Malloy Announces Major Investment to Revitalize New London State Pier

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the state will make a $15 million investment as a first step toward revitalizing the Connecticut State Pier in New London for potential use in the deployment of equipment and workers for the seven offshore wind projects currently planned in the northeast. The funding, which is subject to approval from the State Bond Commission on June 1, will include demolition of selected structures, site improvements, storm water treatment and drainage improvements, upgrades to increase laydown capabilities, construction of a heavy lift pad, improvements to load bearing capacity, and replacement of mooring dolphins.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy and First Lady Cathy Malloy today hosted Connecticut’s criminal justice community at a conference inside of the Cheshire Correctional Institution that was designed to build upon recent efforts in the state to reform the criminal justice system in order to reduce crime and end the cycle of mass incarceration. Attended by about 150 frontline officials – including judges, prosecutors, victim advocates, corrections officers, legislators, incarcerated individuals, educational leaders, and others – this was the first time in the nation that a conference of this kind was held within the walls of a maximum security prison, giving attendees an opportunity to view such a facility from the inside while discussing the impact that the policies they implement have on the very people who serve time in these kinds of institutions.

    In February, Governor Dannel P. Malloy used his annual State of the State address before a joint session of the Connecticut General Assembly to focus on the theme of Connecticut Fairness. The Governor outlined several specific policy initiatives aimed at creating a fairer, more equitable, and more just state for Connecticut residents, stressing in particular the importance of focusing on fairness in the context of a tumultuous national and global political landscape.     Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that award-winning entertainment production group ITV America – the largest independent producer of non-scripted entertainment content in the United States – will be relocating a significant portion of its business operations to Stamford. Additionally, newly launched Wheelhouse Entertainment – founded by entrepreneur and media magnate Brent Montgomery – also will be using Stamford as one of its bases of operations. Combined, the two entertainment companies plan to create approximately 450 jobs in Stamford across areas of finance and operations, production, and post-production, and more.

    Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Department of Revenue Services (DRS) Commissioner Kevin B. Sullivan will depart from his work with the agency effective May 10, 2018 to pursue other professional opportunities. Commissioner Sullivan has served as the head of DRS since January 2011.
