• 8/29/2018 Gov. Malloy Appeals Denial of Federal Assistance on Behalf of Individuals Impacted by May’s Tornadoes and Severe Storms

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has filed an appeal with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in connection with the May 15 tornadoes and storms that heavily impacted parts of Connecticut, requesting that the denial of individual assistance for homeowners in New Haven and Fairfield Counties be reversed. The Governor also filed an appeal over the denial of public assistance and individual assistance on behalf of the towns of Bridgewater, New Milford, and Roxbury, all of which are located in Litchfield County and sustained significant damage from the storms.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection released the following statements on President Trump’s new coal pollution rule, which rolls back Obama-era protections. The EPA estimates the new rule will cause up to 1,400 premature deaths per year.

• 8/22/2018 Gov. Malloy Announces Launch of Statewide Text-to-911 Capability

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut has launched a new Text-to-911 capability as part of the state’s new Next Generation 9-1-1 Emergency Telecommunications System. Text-to-911 provides residents with the ability to send a text message to 9-1-1 from a handheld device in emergency situations when it is either unsafe or they are unable to place a voice call. The system, which is available statewide, is now in effect.

• 8/1/2018 Gov. Malloy and Public Health Officials Advise Residents of Increased West Nile Virus Activity This Season

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and state public health officials are advising Connecticut residents to be aware of a rapid build-up of West Nile virus (WNV) activity within the state as recent tests show that infected mosquitoes are rising at levels higher than normal for this time of year. The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) has detected WNV-infected mosquitoes in 19 municipalities this year, including Bethany, Bridgeport, Darien, East Haven, Easton, Franklin, Greenwich, Hartford, Madison, Manchester, Meriden, New Canaan, New Haven, Stamford, Stratford, Waterbury, Waterford, West Haven, and Weston.

• 8/19/2018 Gov. Malloy Announces Federal Approval of Major Disaster Declaration in Response to May’s Tornadoes and Severe Storms

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that his request for a major disaster declaration in connection with the May 15 tornadoes that impacted parts of the state has been approved for public assistance for New Haven and Fairfield Counties. The Governor’s request for assistance for individuals remains under review.

• 8/27/2018 Gov. Malloy Advises Connecticut Residents to Prepare for Extreme Heat Over the Next Two Days

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy is advising Connecticut residents, particularly those who are most vulnerable, to take precautions ahead of the high temperature conditions that are expected to impact the state through Wednesday. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Hartford County for Tuesday and Heat Advisories for the rest of the state for Tuesday and Wednesday.

• 7/31/2018 Gov. Malloy: 18 Students from Cheshire Correctional Institution Earn Associate Degrees to Prepare Them for Future Careers

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy delivered the keynote address today at the inaugural graduation ceremony for the Wesleyan University Center for Prison Education (CPE), a program that allows students to enroll in a variety of courses and earn an associate degree from Middlesex Community College (MxCC). The ceremony, held at Cheshire Correctional Institution, saw the conferral of degrees to 18 inmates who are currently housed at the prison.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Mayor Toni Harp, Senator Richard Blumenthal, and the commissioners of the Connecticut Departments of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), Public Health (DPH), and Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) were joined today in New Haven by Jim Carroll, President Trump’s nominee for “drug czar” and the current Deputy Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), for a roundtable discussion on addiction. New Haven medical, police, and social service providers also were part of the conversation.

• 8/12/2018 Gov. Malloy: Connecticut Receives $10M Federal Grant to Increase Access to Care for Individuals With Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut is receiving a $10 million federal grant that will be used to increase access to integrated care for individuals with substance use, mental health, and co-occurring disorders. Funding will also be used to address the opioid crisis in the state by increasing access to medication-assisted treatment. The grant has been awarded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS).

• 8/25/2018 Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Senator John McCain

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to be lowered to half-staff beginning immediately in remembrance of Senator John McCain of Arizona, who passed away on Saturday evening. Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on the date of his funeral, which has yet to be announced.

• 8/19/2018 Gov. Malloy: Federal Court Affirms Department of Children and Families Meets Four Additional Goals, Bringing State Closer to Ending Decades of Oversight

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that the U.S. District Court overseeing the Juan F. consent decree today affirmed that the Connecticut Department of Children and Families has achieved and maintained four more of the 22 measures required to end 27 years of federal oversight of the agency. With these goals met, the court monitor has narrowed the remaining outcomes in the state’s exit plan to only five of the 22 outcomes that existed when the Malloy administration entered office in 2011.
