Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released the following statement regarding a contract for non-teaching employees at the University of Connecticut, which is currently pending approval in the General Assembly. This morning, the Governor received a memo from Office of Policy and Management Secretary Ben Barnes outlining the administration's position on the potential contract.

Gov. Malloy to Hold Radio Town Hall Forum on Waterbury's WATR 1320 AM on March 15
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he will hold a radio town hall forum on Waterbury's WATR 1320 AM on the morning of Tuesday, March 15, 2016, to discuss his budget principles, his proposals for adapting state government to a changing economy, and other issues concerning the future of the state.

Gov. Malloy: State Grant to Help Hartford Combat Gun Violence
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that an expansion of the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system in Hartford will become operational by today as a result of a $300,000 state grant. The technology detects and conveys the location of gunfire or other weapon fire using mounted audio sensors. Those sensors triangulate signals and identify the point of origin of a gunshot, immediately communicating that information to law enforcement.

Gov. Malloy: Special Election for State Representative in Waterbury to be Held April 26
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that a special election to fill a vacancy in the State House of Representatives serving the 75th Assembly District, which covers a portion of Waterbury, will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2016.

Gov. Malloy Announces New Leadership Team at the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has selected a new leadership team to operate the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Michael R. Bzdyra of Wallingford has been appointed to serve as Commissioner of the agency and Judeen Wrinn of Middletown has been named Deputy Commissioner.

Gov. Malloy Forms Working Group to Improve the Processing of Evidence in Sexual Assault Cases
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has formed a working group aimed at examining and limiting barriers for submitting sexual assault evidence to the Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory. With the goal of helping local and state law enforcement work hand-in-hand, the working group will make recommendations to standardize and facilitate the transfer, tracking, and testing of evidence kits as well as address issues around victim notification.

Gov. Malloy Speaks with Sentencing Commission, Urges Adoption of Second Chance Proposals
With the Sentencing Commission meeting today, Governor Dannel P. Malloy urged the General Assembly to adopt Second Chance 2.0 legislation he introduced that builds upon reforms approved last year, which are designed to continue reducing the state's decreasing crime rate, as well as ensure nonviolent offenders are successfully reintegrated into society.

Gov. Malloy Recognizes Office of Higher Education Executive Director Jane Ciarleglio for Dedicated Service to the State
Governor Dannel P. Malloy released the following statement on the departure of Office of Higher Education (OHE) Executive Director Jane A. Ciarleglio, thanking her for years of dedicated public service to the state. Having served as the head of the state's higher education office since 2011, Ciarleglio announced that she will be retiring effective April 1.

Gov. Malloy: Small Business Express Program has Supported 1,500 Companies to Expand and Create Jobs
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, joined by Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) Commissioner Catherine Smith, today announced that the state's Small Business Express Program (EXP) has reached a new milestone. With an economic toolkit the state did not have prior to the Governor's administration, more than 1,500 Connecticut companies have been supported by the program, helping create and retain over 22,000 jobs.

What They’re Saying: Domestic Violence Advocates Testify in Support of Gov. Malloy’s Legislation on Temporary Restraining Orders
Governor Dannel P. Malloy has introduced a legislative proposal to protect domestic violence victims by prohibiting the possession of firearms for anyone who becomes subject to a temporary restraining order. At a public hearing of the General Assembly's Judiciary Committee today, lawmakers are hearing why the adoption of this law will help eliminate a critical window of time during which a victim's life could be imminently at risk. The proposal is similar to laws already enacted in many states across the country.
