Gov. Malloy and State Employee Unions Reach Agreement on Pensions That Will Support the Employee Retirement System While Strengthening the State's Financial Obligations
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and representatives from the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC) today announced that after months of productive negotiations between the administration and SEBAC representatives, an agreement has been reached to modify the funding calculation and amortization schedule for the State Employee Retirement System (SERS) to help avoid the fiscal cliff the state would otherwise face in the coming years. The purpose of the agreement, which now heads to the General Assembly for approval, is to allow the state to fully fund its pension obligations on a stable, predictable basis while continuing to support the state’s retirement system.

Gov. Malloy Directs State Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of State Representative Betty Boukus
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing the flag of the State of Connecticut to fly at half-staff in honor of State Representative Betty Boukus (D-New Britain, Plainville), who passed away early this morning. State flags should be lowered beginning immediately until sunset on the date of interment, which has not yet been determined.

Gov. Malloy and Commissioner Wentzell Host U.S. Education Secretary King for Roundtable Discussion at New Haven’s Wilbur Cross High School
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and State Commissioner of Education Dianna R. Wentzell today joined U.S. Secretary of Education John King, U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, New Haven Mayor Toni Harp, New Haven Public Schools Interim Superintendent Reginald Mayo as well as students, educators, and community partners for a school visit and roundtable discussion at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven. The roundtable discussion focused on restorative practices and other strategies to address disengaged youth, including New Haven’s YouthStat initiative and the School-Based Diversion Initiative, which was expanded as a part of Governor Malloy’s Second Chance Society criminal justice reforms.

Gov. Malloy Announces Significant Improvements in DMV Wait Times as the Result of Time-Saving Measures that are Being Rolled Out in Offices Statewide
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that with the successful results of a pilot program that was launched at two Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices this fall that has resulted in a 55 percent reduction in wait times, the efficiency measures are being rolled out to other offices around the state in order to duplicate the results that are providing more conveniences to consumers through the introduction of certain time-saving measures, the loosening of certain requirements, and the elimination of red tape.

Gov. Malloy Statement on Praxair's Announcement of Merger With German Company Linde
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released the following statement regarding the announcement made by Danbury, Connecticut-based company Praxair, Inc. that it will be merging with German company Linde. As part of the agreement under the merger, Praxair’s current CEO Steve Angel will lead the combined company as CEO and will be based in Connecticut.

Gov. Malloy Announces Xerox to Keep Headquarters, Jobs in Norwalk
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced a partnership with the Xerox Corporation that secures the company’s headquarters and 150 jobs in Norwalk, where it has been located since 2008. As part of the project, Xerox may add between 20 to 40 new jobs over the next four years.

Gov. Malloy and Congressman Courtney Announce Creation of Innovative Apprenticeship Program at Electric Boat
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and U.S. Congressman Joe Courtney today announced that General Dynamics Electric Boat, working with the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL), has re-introduced an on-the-job training initiative using the nationally-recognized Registered Apprenticeship program. The program, which officially began last week, currently has 30 apprentices training in various job classifications that include inside machinists, outside machinists, welders, ship fitters, and sheet metal workers. On January 17, a second apprentice program will begin at Electric Boat (EB). An additional thirty design apprentices are enrolled in this four-year program, which includes classroom instruction provided by Three Rivers Community College and on-the-job training.

Gov. Malloy Directs Flags to Half-Staff Wednesday in Recognition of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and State of Connecticut flags to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, in recognition of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. The national observation honors the lives lost in the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.

Gov. Malloy Statement on November Jobs Report
Governor Dannel P. Malloy released the following statement in response to the Connecticut Department of Labor’s monthly “Labor Situation” report for November 2016. Preliminary numbers show that Connecticut added 2,100 jobs last month and the unemployment rate fell four-tenths of a percentage point to 4.7 percent – the lowest level the state has seen since October 2007.
