Gov. Malloy Announces State Grants to Assist Sixteen Small Towns with Capital Improvement Projects
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that sixteen towns throughout Connecticut will receive funding under the latest round of the state's Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP), which assists smaller communities with infrastructure and capital improvement projects. The nearly $6 million in grants announced today are the second round of grants announced this year. An earlier round of STEAP 2016 grants was announced in February.

Gov. Malloy Says Large Decline in Number of Youthful Offenders Demonstrates Success of Recent Juvenile Justice Reforms
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today highlighted the release of new statistics from the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management's Criminal Justice Policy and Planning Division, which show that the state has experienced a 54 percent decline over the last seven years in the number of inmates within its prison population who are aged 18 to 21. Additionally, the number of arrests of persons in the same age group has decreased by 53 percent over a similar time period - a drop that corresponds to recent juvenile justice reforms the state implemented during the last several years.

Gov. Malloy Announces Inmate Population Drops Below 15,000 for First Time in Two Decades
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that as the state continues initiatives to better handle the inmate population and reduce the chances of recidivism, the statewide inmate population within the Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) has dropped below 15,000 - the lowest level it has been since January 3, 1997, when it was 14,989.

Gov. Malloy Announces Decision to Purchase 60 Additional Rail Cars for Expanded Capacity on the New Haven Line
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that as the New Haven Line continues to experience all-time high record ridership numbers, the State of Connecticut will soon purchase an additional 60 M-8 rail cars to add to its recently launched, state-of-the-art fleet servicing the line.

Gov. Malloy Announces Launch of Innovative Program to Measurably Improve the Lives of Families Struggling with Substance Use
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, U.S. Administration on Children, Youth and Families Commissioner Rafael López, Connecticut Department of Children and Families Commissioner Joette Katz, and Social Finance CEO Tracy Palandjian today announced the launch of an innovative new program that will help 500 Connecticut families with young children who are in need of services to help ensure family stability and keep young children with their parents. The Connecticut Family Stability Pay for Success Project will combine nonprofit expertise, private funding, and independent evaluation to promote family stability and reduce parental substance use for DCF-involved families.

Gov. Malloy Announces Commissioner Murray to Leave Department of Developmental Services Early Next Year
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has been informed by Department of Developmental Services (DDS) Commissioner Morna Murray that she intends to depart from her position with the agency early next year to pursue other professional opportunities. Commissioner Murray, who joined the administration in February 2015, will continue to serve in her current capacity and oversee a transition period prior to her departure.
